PROJECT BACKGROUND
PEPPER'S GHOST
Pepper's Ghost is an old technique traditionally used to create visual illusions in theatres, museums, amusement parks etc. It uses simple reflection of light to project an image that appears to be in a space (like a ghost). So what opportunities can be found when this technique is combined with elements from our physical world?
EXPLORATION
SHADOWS
Initially, I explored the different ways to play with light and shadow and how I can transform the shadow.
Then, I tested out ways to incorporate Pepper's Ghost with the shadows casted.
SHADOW PLAY
And finally...
Shadow Play is a concept that combines modern technology with the traditional art of shadow puppetry. Digital effects provide greater details and fluidity to shadow puppet shows. Three-dimensional features, as well as a wider range of colours displayed that were previously not possible, can now help to enhance the audience experience. Dynamic mood changes are limited digitally but can be created physically. This partnership of the virtual and the physical work together to complement each other, bringing about greater depth and captivity to this story-telling platform
